Too many deer?

What happens when nature decides there is at least one too many deer in the population?

Yep...this.....>

We were headed out to Bethlehem Church this morning around 7:30, for the kids to sing in church, and we had pretty much just turned to go north on Hwy 77 north of Mville, and the deer just ran right smack dab in front of poor Bruce as he was driving.  There was nothing else to do, and we are just so thankful that he is a good driver, and was able to keep control of the vehicle so that we were not hurt.  I have no idea what the deer looked like, and I don't think we want to know. I'm sure it 't'aint purty....(sigh)

Sometimes Birthdays just go on and on and on....

Allison had the privilege to just continue celebrating her birthday yesterday. My mom took Allison and I to Kansas City in order to go to the American Girl store, where the little miss got to pick out her very own, very first American Girl doll.

Allison has been so excited for this day to come ever since Grandma told her that she was going to buy her an American Girl doll for her birthday. A  couple of Allison's friends have American Girl dolls, and she has an off brand 18 inch doll that we gave her for her last birthday or Christmas or something,

We've been getting the Wish Sales booklets for awhile now, and of course we pour over the contents.  She did no less with this last one in preparation for the visit.  She pretty much had in mind what she wanted.  There are the historical dolls, which I think are pretty cool, and these are the ones that have the books written abouit their characters. Then there are also the "Just Like Me" dolls, which is what she ended up getting.

Grandma had visited with a friend of hers, who had taken her granddaughter shopping, I guess.

Black Squirrel Night Costume Contest

Allison actually won a prize in the costume contest for her age group tonight at Black Squirrel Night.  We haven't done the contest for several years because it's usually so doggone cold by that time of night.  Plus, the winners usually have really elaborate, totally creative costumes...and we don't.  This year, Allison planned her entire costume on her own, and begged to let her be in the contest.  I told her that there were usually lots of kids, and the kids with the really ornate creative costumes usually win.  She was okay with that, and said she just wanted to be in the contest. How could I say no?  Well, lo and behold, she won a prize. I thought they said she won 3rd place, but the bag of goodies she received as her prize was marked with a 2nd place tag.  Regardless of which place, it was really cool for her and she was so excited!  Her friend Aleah is next to her, and she received first place....she is dressed as a flyswatter. Very cute!

Obama: 2016

Bruce took me to my annual movie date night out with him last night.  We went to see the documentary "Obama: 2016".  It's kind of weird because the first thing you always get asked when you see a movie, or the first thing you want to say when you tell someone you saw a movie, is to say it was good or it was bad or it was interesting or whatever.  I honestly don't know what to say about this movie.  It was neither good or bad.  I don't know how much of it to believe. It all makes sense to me.  And the filmmaker did use actual footage from Obama's book and from television film etc.  But that can be edited and spliced together anyway someone wants to do it.

It's incredibly scary to think that this COULD be true.  It's hard to understand and comprehend, given where I come from, where I've grown up, where I'm raising my daughter.   My main thing I keep thinking is if it is true, how can President Obama, who is (or should be) a father foremost to two daughters actually want to raise his children or have his children grow up and live in an America that was portrayed.....

School's Back

School has resumed as of the middle of August, and we seem to have been able to resume some semblance of routine and order...some...    I've been trying to 'ease' into all the different schedules; I don't know if that's a good way to do it or not. I thought it would be, but I have to count on Bruce to pick up Allison from school some days, and it can get definitely confusing for him. I can tell him, but he won't remember. Then I have to carefully know how to remind him without reminding him...ha!...without sounding naggy, etc.    I started Homework Center after school this week, and that has gone well thus far with a couple of days under the belt.  We start Family Story Time again next week, and then I think I have everything back going that had been going when school let out last May.  This summer definitely was a whirlwind, and I think I learned a lot from the hectic nature of the summer.

Here is my girl on the first day of school...looking very grown up :)
