It's Rough Out There.....

This has been quite the week or more.  So many things have been going on, both locally and around the globe.  Things that are very disturbing to me, and things that I cannot understand why they make sense to people around me.

I learned that even though I am conceited enough to think that I am correct in my thinking of moral issues.  I must be because I try really, really hard to always side on the view of honesty, fairness, and God's Word and will.  I try to look at both sides of an issue and then fall to the side that I believe follows what I've been taught all my life.  I do still try to be fair, however.  My world can tend to be more gray than black and white a lot of the times. Even things that I agree or disagree with, it may only be 98% of the time...I can think of a 2% in which it could go the opposite. Abortion is an issue for one...I am pro-life, antiabortion.  I don't think it has anything to do with a woman's right to choose...at least at that point.  It IS a woman's right to choose to not have sex.  But, there is that 2% of the time (I'll even go to 5%) when there is rape or incest involved....and in those cases I can entertain the use of an abortion if done in the early stages.  I especially cannot condone late term abortion...ESPECIALLY in this day and age where babies are born early and can be saved outside of the mother's body, survive and thrive in life.  How people can view an unborn child, a said-fetus, to not be a life if just beside me. I cannot understand it.

This week the U.S. Supreme Court struck down DOMA, stating that it was unconstitutional.  I am so sick and tired of hearing that the 'rights' of LGBTs are being neglected or stomped on by being denied the "benefits' of marriage.   You see, I am a firm believer in the fact that marriage actually began as a sacrament implemented by God for a man and a woman...a very sacred sacrament, not to be taken lightly.  To me, this has absolutely about equal rights for gay people.  Homosexuality is a totally different subject in my opinion. I don't necessarily see the appeal in same sex marriage, I don't agree with it, and yes, there is a lot of information in the Bible as well about that, that is a totally separate issue from marriage.  So, why not just form another "category" (for lack of a better word) so that if gays must be in a "committed relationship"similar to marriage and want to have all the "rights" and "benefits" of married couples, okay then.  It is simply not to be considered "MARRIAGE".  I am soooooo sick of national media making everything SEXUALIZED.  People are not just people anymore...they are gay couples or straight couples, or whatever.

I don't even want to go down the road about what can of worms this whole thing can open up.  Let's face it, homosexuality was (and probably still is) illegal not that long ago; what happens down the road if people want to start taking more than one spouse such as the Mormons do, what if they want to marry a child or an animal?  Sounds far-fetched? No that can't happen or won't happen?   It wasn't that many years ago that no one would have thought we would be having THIS conversation of gay marriage either!

Whew!

Whew! What a week!  Those are the primary words that come to mind today.  It has been just a crazy week.  I've been 'in charge"...or the 'organizer' for VBS for the last three or four years, and this year has been, by far and away, the very hardest week EVER.  I know a lot of it just comes down straight to me....I just haven't been into it this year...which I find disturbing, because I have LOVED VBS in the past.  Things have gone well enough this week, nothing really comes to mind that makes me think that something has gone wrong, or spoiled the activities...I also think the kids have had a good time  I can't help feeling, however, that I have failed somewhere.  I' don't think I've necessarily discovered it yet, ....

I feel like I need about a two or three day period to just SLEEP....I know that I wouldn't be able to do that....my body doesn't let me sleep past when I usually wake up in the morning, but it sure sounds inviting. I hope I get some tme to veg this weekend.  The only problem....my house is a pigsty from neglect this week. I did clean up the kitchen this morning and cleared off the dining room table that had been the catch all all week.  Now I need to sweep, vacuum and dust, and that will help.    ...oh, and do laundry...geesh...I have quite a bit of it done, because I've been able to at least transfer clothes fto washer, to dryer, but that's usually as far as it goes...then it sits in the clothes basket....or if it does come out, then it is stacked in another clothesbasket, and we've been living out of them. I need to have some time to put clothes away, too.  DRUDGERY!!!....

Osama Bin Laden is Dead

What a beautiful picture this is....   I was born an American, I was raised an American, and I am still an American.  While I don't claim to be one of these flag-toting, over the top zealots, I am proud to be an American.  For the majority of my life, I have also been a passive proud American.  I have always taken being an American and all that came with that 'title' for granted, a God-given, God-blessed 'right' I suppose.  I live in a very 'normal' area of the country.  It's one of the best areas of the world to live.  Small, rural, relatively calm and quiet, some say boring, pretty safe....  I am truly blessed and fortunate to have been born and raised here.  Thanks be to God that I have not had any horrific trials in my life. I have been blessed.

Almost 10 years ago, when the events surrounding September 11, 2001, occurred, fear pretty much spread across the country.  Even though I was 1,500 or so miles away from Ground Zero in New York City, or the Pentagon in Washington, DC, or a field in Pennsylvania, there was a sense of paralyzing fear for a period of time.  There was so much unknown.  The biggest unknown was....why?   We knew the who...the where..the when...but the why was so hard to understand.  They way of life for the individuals who hijacked and flew those planes full of people to their deaths is impossible to imagine.  Their disregard for the greatest gift of all...that of life...is unfathomable to me.

Last night, the United States Marine special ops brought down the head kingpin of Al-Quida...Osama Bin Laden is dead, killed in his 'sprawling compound' in Pakistan.

Happy April Fool's Day!

APRIL FOOL'S!!!!  HA HA HA HA Ha ha ha ha
...cuz yesterday was April Fool's Day...get it?    ahem...  not that good, huh?
It's the best that I personally am able to do.

April Fool's Day to me is like St. Patrick's Day...I might try to participate in it just to stay with the group but it's not that big of a deal to me.  Am I a fuddy dud or what?   Allison tried to have fun  with it with her dad, they were having squirrels and rabbits on the head, etc.

Actually, it was yesterday.  I went and had my first mammogram.  I know, I am a little past due...like 5 years...I was supposed to have one when I was 40, and then one every year after that I think.  It just was the unknown.  It really wasn't that bad.  It wasn't the funnest thing in the world, of course, but I would rather have a mammogram than a pap, that's for sure.  They had me fill in a postcard with my address to send out reminder card next year when it's time. I think that's a great idea, otherwise, it might be another 5 years before I go back! HA!

Gratitude

I'm not feeling all that gracious about the weather right now...supposed to be freezing drizzly stuff off and on pretty much all weekend...ick!

So..........I am trying to think of things I AM grateful for...............

1.  My beautiful, intelligent (although sometimes ornery and mouthy) daughter, Allison.
2.  My incredibly supportive husband, Bruce.
3.  A beautiful, comfortable, warm home.
4.  A car that runs...most of the time...pretty much....
5.  My family, although I don't get to see them as much as I should (ahem...Amy....ahem....).
6.  My education...very grateful I was able to go to college. I do hope/wish sometimes that someday maybe I can go back and get my master's degree.
7.  My teaching degree...even though I don't technically use it to its extent right now, I'm still how happy and proud to have achieved it.
8.  Friends and acquaintances.
9.  Having a fair degree of intelligence and creativity...I'm not the brightest bulb in the package, but I'm also not the dimest! :)
10.  Opportunities that are not always available to everyone!

to be continued............................................

Good Morning

Up and at 'em early this morning.  Had tutoring at 8:00 this morning with the boys that I've been seeing for about four years. I say that, and we have had a heck of a time getting together since May of 2010. It's been really really bad...like this is the third or fourth time that I've seen them since May!!! I don't really do much with the older one,and I keep telling the dad that, but he still comes.  I guess he enjoys my company! :)  One of my Saturday morning appointments had a funeral today. You know, things like that cannot be helped, and I certainly certainly understand and I am honestly not complaining, but it does make it really really hard when times are set up and then for this reason or the other they can't come.  It's not a big deal every now and again, but sometimes it seems like it's much more often.

Oh I almost forgot...I got a new blu-ray DVD player from Wally World the other day.  I don't have any blu-ray DVDs, so why you may ask did I get one....   Well, I LOVE my Netflix!!!  They did, however, raise the rates on the plan I was on.  Not a big deal, but I wanted to reevaluate what I am using Netflix to watch...  I actually probably am watching more "Instant" movies/shows right now. It works fine on the computer laptop while I'm working, but it can slow it down sometimes.  So I ordered myself a Christmas/birthday present from Bruce :).   I picked it up Site-to-Store on Thursday evening, and I actually got it hooked up Thursday night!  Needless to say, I was very proud of myself! :)

It also has access to several other movie internet channels, but you do, of course, have to pay for the movies or shows and they are like at least $1.99 a piece from what I was seeing. Not bad if it's a new release, etc., but I am getting a month for like $8.99 pretty much unlimited Instant movies.  A lot of them of course are older movies, but that is cool too.  Either I haven't seen them anyway, or I don't remember them.  There are also tons of old TV shows, and I'm really into documentaries right now, especially the Ken Burns ones.  There are a number of those on Netflix Instant Watch now.  They do rotate in and out some movies, too, but I'm not sure how frequently they do that (as there are some more recent movies on the "Instant Watch" list also).

In addition, there is access to YouTube, Picasa Web Albums, and Pandora...very, very cool!!!! :)

Sleep or not to sleep?

AAACK!  Someone help me!?!?!?!   I'm starting to get my days and nights mixed up.  It takes me back to the newborn days of Allison's life.   She was awake overnight.   For awhile now, I seem to be staying up later and later, or, as tonight and Monday night, I went to bed early enough, but then I wake up at 2:00 and I'm up for awhile.  I'm not one to necessarily go watch TV...that feels like not doing anything.  I feel that I need to "do" something.  I know that is the wrong way to think.  In fact, things I have read point to that being a huge part of the problem.  I try to do things that ultimately stimulate me instead of trying to relax myself in order to back to sleep.  Much easier said than done.  The main problem with this whole situation is the fact that come about 1:00 or so then I am EXHAUSTED and cannot keep my eyes open...:(    I know, I know, .... I am headed back to bed again, after I save and publish this post.
